Florence also blew down trees, including one that went through the roof of Kevin DiLoreto's home in Wilmington.

Despite the distractions, FEMA officials say they are prepared to lead the government's response to Florence. Trump plans a visit to the region next week.

Its top sustained winds have dropped to 70 miles per hour, and it's at a near standstill, moving west at just 3 miles per hour.

Florence will dump 40 inches (101.6 cm) of rain in some parts of the Carolina coast, forecasters said.
