Canelo-Golovkin trilogy? Alvarez open to another rematch

What time does the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight start?

Golovkin and Alvarez took to the ring exactly a year ago in an absolute classic which ended in a split decision draw. After 12 rounds, Alvarez would be announced the victor of the bout via majority decision, winning the WBC middleweight title.

Atlas added that he felt Golovkin was controlling the fight and deserved to win.

Canelo Alvarez celebrates after his majority decision win over Gennady Golovkin.

The Mexican claimed a frenetic final round on two of the three scorecards which was critical in preventing a repeat of the draw both men shared 364 days earlier at the same T-Mobile Arena venue.

"I am a great fighter and I showed it tonight", Alvarez remarked via an interpreter. It's obvious that these two guys can make great fights. Both landed well to the head and Golovkin (38-1-1) controlled some rounds with his jab though neither were ever in any trouble of going down. Criticized and chastised for his approach in the initial meeting last September, Alvarez looked like a different fighter this time around; in truth, he looked more like himself.

The fight came after an acrimonious weigh-in during which Alvares nearly head-butted Golovkin, who is known affectionately through the boxing world as "Triple-G".

"I'm very excited, very emotional".

"I think he's scared". Alvarez was 202 of 622, while Golovkin was 234 of 879.

Ringside punch stats showed a close fight, though they favoured Golovkin by a small margin.

The first six rounds were scored as followed: Canelo won rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6, whilst Golovkin took 1 and 4 (on all four cards).

"We had a great fight, the one we expected the first time around". Some very close rounds that could have went either way.

A great boxing fight was just ruined by a bogus decision by the judges ... again. Golovkin reportedly says he wants a third bout with Alvarez. At times their heads were nearly touching, bringing hooks and uppercuts into focus, with Alvarez landing a well-placed right to the body in the sixth. Rather, it is time to see Alvarez defend his crown against an excellent crop of younger middleweights, including Danny Jacobs, Jaime Munguia, a 21-year-old who fought on the undercard last night, Errol Spence and either of the Charlo brothers. Sanchez told Golovkin after the eighth round.

"Some very close rounds that could have went either way".

The weigh-in on Friday was rather heated, with Alvarez attempting to headbutt Golovkin before the pair were restrained by their respective trainers.
