Mike Pence: No-one on my staff wrote Trump 'resistance' op-ed

As the New York Times op-ed written by an anonymous senior official in the Trump administration continues to rock Washington, Vice President Mike Pence and White House adviser Kellyanne Conway are refuting charges that the administration has considered removing Trump from office. The op-ed writer claimed to be part of a "resistance" movement within the Trump administration that was working quietly behind the scenes to thwart the president's most risky impulses.

Pence's remarks come amid the ongoing back and forth between Mueller and President Trump's legal team over an interview with the president.

"To have someone who literally celebrates coming in every day to frustrate the agenda that the president and I were elected to advance, it really is an assault on our democracy and it should be universally condemned", he said.

He also said he would participate in any review by the administration following the publication of the New York Times article.

"I know my people", Mr Pence told CBS's Face the Nation. I know their character.

"If senior administration officials think the president of the United States is not able to do his job, then they should invoke the 25th Amendment", Sen.

Pence says during a taped "Fox News Sunday" interview: "I would agree to take it in a heartbeat and would submit to any review the administration wanted to do".

On an unrelated matter, Pence said on CBS that he has not been called for an interview by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible coordination between Russia and Trump's Republican presidential campaign as well as Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

"I know their dedication and I am absolutely confident that no one on the Vice-President's staff had anything to do with this."

"I don't have to ask them because I know them". He initially said he would be willing to sit down with Mueller for an interview, though his attorneys have strongly advised against doing so for fear their client would fall into a "perjury trap". "Given our current context, that could lead to a shield for President Trump from accountability by the special counsel's investigation and that's something that I tried to make the real focus of my questioning of Judge Kavanaugh". But he declined to say whether he believes all top officials should be made to do the same, saying it was a decision for Trump to make.

Mr Trump has said the Justice Department should investigate and unmask the anonymous author.
