Tired Boy Donald Trump Says Obama’s Speech Put Him to Sleep

Barack Obama gives speech today as he receives ethics award — watch live stream, live updates

Even as he has largely remained out of the spotlight, Obama made clear he's paid close attention to the steady stream of headlines chronicling the Trump administration and said the news is a reminder of what's at stake in the November midterm elections.

Obama's speech in the university's 1,300-person auditorium has seen great interest from the school's student body, according to university spokesman Jon Davis, who said they had received about 22,000 requests for tickets, noted CNN. That's how real change starts, Obama said.

"It did not start with Donald Trump", he said.

Speaking in North Dakota, Trump didn't have a substantial rebuttal to Obama's speech-only juvenile insults.

"I'm sorry, I watched it but I fell asleep", Trump said Friday about Obama's speech. "I found he's very good - very good for sleeping!"

It's the first time 44's publicly attacked 45 since leaving office and, honestly, it's the kind of talk Democrats have been dying to hear from Obama.

I asked Eric Schultz, an Obama advisor, about why Obama is showcasing his new themes in IL.

Trump, at a rally later in the day, said he had been asked what he thought of Obama's speech.

Obama will roll out his mid-term message when he receives the Institute of Government and Public Affairs Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government at UIUC at 11 a.m.

"If you don't like what's going on right now, and you shouldn't - do not - complain", Obama said. "The recovery began in earnest when Republicans took over the House in 2010 and put an end to any prospect of more massive stimulus bills, or more heavy regulations like Obamacare".

To avoid such traps, Obama in his post-presidency has chosen his spots carefully, opting to do targeted robo-calls past year to support Democratic Sen. Obama's latest foray into politics is likely to ignite Republicans, including Trump.

Although Twitter isn't great for deep analysis, it is flawless for soundbites. "People in power want us to believe that the rest of us are powerless to solve our problems through democracy".

Trump wasn't quick to point fingers back or take a swipe at the former president. He has also hewed thus far to high-minded rhetoric that contrasts starkly with Trump's brawling approach to politics.

Trump has consistently used Obama as a foil on Twitter to energize his voters, while Democratic incumbent senators are struggling for reelection in states where Obama has never been particularly popular.
