What Late-Night Hosts Have to Say About Trump Op-Ed

Defense Secretary James Mattis then told colleagues Trump had the mental ability of'a fifth or sixth-grader

What Americans should really worry about, the anonymous official explains, "is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us".

The op-ed confirms numerous reports in Bob Woodward's new book Fear, which reported that top officials remove papers from Trump's desk to stop him from seeing and signing them: "The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren't for unsung heroes in and around the White House".

The former secretary of state told Cooper that the country is experiencing a "constitutional crisis" following Bob Woodward's new book, which depicts the Trump administration and the White House as dysfunctional and completely unhinged.

A senior official inside Donald Trump's White House has written an astonishing account of how staff try to act as a brake on the president's impulsive behaviour, and how he tried to limit sanctions on Russian Federation after the Salisbury poisoning.

"We are disappointed, but not surprised, that the paper chose to publish this pathetic, reckless and selfish op-ed", Sanders said in a statement.

Under the standards which the New York Times operates, it is inconceivable that the op-ed's anonymous source isn't as described.

"We fully recognise what is happening".

The White House's reaction to the NYT piece echoed the administration's response to Woodward's book, which also paints the United States leader as an impulsive decision-maker, who is called an "idiot" and a "liar" even by those closest to him.

"We believe publishing this essay anonymously is the only way to deliver an important perspective to our readers", the paper said.

In the piece published online Wednesday, the official sounds an alarm about Trump's "amorality" and "impetuous" leadership style.

"The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going insane - & they don't know what to do", Trump tweeted on Thursday morning. The author calls Trump "anti-trade and anti-democratic".

Mattis is said to have made the statement after a meeting with Trump where he ordered him to "f****** kill" Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad after a chemical attack on civilians past year.

Trump has reacted with fury to the article, describing it as a "gutless editorial". She also accuses the individual of putting himself or herself ahead of the will of the American people.

"We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardised by its disclosure".

"If I was in this decision-making process, I would take the risk", Pope said.

He also blasted The New York Times as "failing".

However, the anonymous official's public declaration seems to support some details, such as administration officials stealing Trump's papers off his desk to prevent him from signing legislation they considered unsafe to the nation, as CNN describes from an advance excerpt of the book.

Huckabee said, too, that an author using anonymous sources is a "gutless coward". However, Trump has tweeted statements from several (John Kelly, James Mattis, and Sarah Sanders) denying some information in the book - such Chief of Staff John Kelly calling Trump an idiot. "Democrats and their allies in the media understand the president's policies are working and with success like this, no one can beat him in 2020 - not even close".

"Republican governments don't come along very often", he said, saying that the GOP only controlled the House, Senate and White House for 20 of the past 100 years.
