Samsung launches world’s first 8K QLED TV at IFA 2018

IFA 2018 news

The new LG 88-inch 8K OLED TV is now displayed at the LG booth at IFA 2018 show in Berlin, but there is no information on the price or the availability date. This next-generation TV won't come cheap and even if one has the money to spend on something such as this, the cost begs the question, is it worth it at this point?

Starting with the Samsung 8K QLED TV, the Q900R comes in four screen sizes - 65inch, 75-inch, 82-inch, and 85-inch. The South Korean tech firm has not yet revealed the pricing and availability details of the Q900R 8K QLED TVs.

The company says that Q900R is also capable of 4000 nits peak brightness, which is about double of the current Samsung TVs and more than quadruple compared to OLED TVs.

Samsun'gs new 8K QLED range will be available globally from September onwards. LG is introducing the first 8K OLED TV at the show, reports DigiTimes. When you feed lower resolution content to the TV, regardless of the source, the TV's processor will intelligently upscale it to 8K.

Adding up to a total of over 33 million pixels, the LG's 88-inch 8K OLED TV has a resolution of 7680x4320, which is an equivalent of four 4K TVs. At CES earlier this year, Samsung unveiled a prototype with a MFA (Micro Full Array) backlight behind the LCD panel but there is no mention of MFA in the press announcement at IFA. Besides a few user-generated videos on YouTube, there is not much to see here. This follows an 8K TV announcement from LG yesterday and we have a feeling this will only be the start of an 8K trend in Germany this week.

Meanwhile, the display also includes several lifestyle and smart features like support for Samsung's One Remote, Ambient Mode, The One Invisible Connection cable, SmartThings, and the Universal Guide. The company has confirmed only a 85-inch size for the USA at this point. That said, the 8K resolution should allow for even more vibrant HDR.

In Germany, the TVs will be priced at 5000, 7000 and 15000 Euro.
