The McSkillet YouTube channel amassed 877k subscribers over the course of its four-year existence, leading to it being widely considered one of the most popular of its genre.

The wrong-way driver in a fiery crash on a busy Southern California interstate Thursday that killed a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter has been identified as a popular gaming YouTube personality.

The online star, who called himself McSkillet, was reportedly driving faster than 100mph when his £200,000 McLaren sports vehicle crashed head-on into an SUV, killing its driver and passenger. His last video appeared to have been posted some five months ago.

Aileen Pizarro, 43, and her daughter Aryana Pizarro, 12, were killed instantly when he collided with their auto. Six other vehicles were also involved, and two combusted in flames.

McSkillet made a fortune selling custom digital "skins" that change the look of in-game characters or items, which were used on weapons in the first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

In December, he posted a video showing his McLaren 650S, a high-powered supercar purchased with his earnings from YouTube and through the CS:GO skins market.

"They stood in the middle trying to stop him, doing hand motions but he didn't stop at all".

Classmates at La Jolla Country Day School, Heitmann's alma mater, told FOX 5 Friday that they were shocked and saddened to learn about the rumored death of a peer, which was also widely reported in industry publications.

The son of victim Aileen Pizarro described his mother and sister to CBS News as the "kindest, most caring people in the world".

He started a GoFundMe to aid in funeral costs.

Around 30 minutes before the crash, a motorist smashed through a gate at Ashley Falls Elementary School in the Carmel Valley area before speeding off, according to San Diego police. On Thursday afternoon, police rushed to his home on Sea Knoll Court after his father called to report Heitmann speeding away after he hit another family auto.
