Trump connects Russian Federation probe, action on Brennan

John Brennan Trump Took My Security Clearance to Cover Up His Russia Collusion AFP File Molly Riley 16 Aug 2018

Brennan, who served under President Barack Obama, was one of the intelligence chiefs who signed off on the intelligence community's January 2017 assessment that Russian Federation interfered with the intent to help Trump and to hurt Hillary Clinton. Trump blames Brennan and others for planting the seeds of the special counsel's probe that has dogged his presidency for the last 15 months.

His remarks come on the heels of outrage from some of Trump's opponents to his targeting of Brennan, the former Central Intelligence Agency head calling the president's actions a politically-charged effort to "scare others who might challenge him".

Brennan, a persistent critic of Trump, lashed out at the president for calling former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman a "dog" in a tweet, saying "it's astounding how often you fail to live up to minimum standards of decency, civility & probity".

In his article on Thursday, Brennan claimed that the question was not if collusion took place, but whether it "constituted criminally liable conspiracy, whether obstruction of justice occurred to cover up any collusion or conspiracy, and how many members of "Trump Incorporated" had "attempted to defraud the government by laundering and concealing the movement of money into their pockets".

McRaven oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

McRaven echoed those sentiments, arguing in his op-ed that Trump has "embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation".

"I call it the rigged witch hunt, (it) is a sham".

He added: "So I think it's something that had to be done".

Paul's office released the scathing statement Wednesday afternoon just hours after Trump officially stripped Brennan's credentials.

Castro said, "It's a clear abuse of power, and it's a mark of an authoritarian dictator, really, rather than a democratically-elected president of the United States".

"What it shows is that the president is fixated on the Russian Federation investigation, he's angry about it, and he wants to do everything he can to discourage or slow down the investigation", he said.

"He's acted like a political hack, and not a national security professional", Kennedy said. "I think it shows the state of mind and intent to interfere or impede any unfavourable discussion of his potential connection to Russian Federation".

Other names on that list include former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Director James Comey, and many others.

When the White House made the Brennan announcement Wednesday, it also said it was looking at the clearances of nine other former Obama administration national-security officials, Adm. McRaven not among them. All are critics of the president or are people who Trump appears to believe are against him. The White House later issued a revised statement with that date removed. "John (Brennan) already has been".
