Shields, 51, was found dead on Friday at his Trump Tower apartment in New York City.

Businessman and banker Dennis Shields, the sometime boyfriend of Bethenny Frankel, died Friday at age 51, according to NBC.

The New York Post reported that Shields' assistant found his boss unconscious at 9 a.m. and called 911 while using Narcan in an attempt to revive the business mogul. In an interview days before his death, Shields said they were still together four weeks ago.

The Medical Examiner's office is now investigating Shields' cause of death.

In a statement to People, Shields said, "We are all heartbroken".

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told Fox 5 News that the investigation is ongoing and the cause and manner of death will be released when completed. "Please respect our family's privacy at this time". Shields, the CEO of the company LawCash, previously dated and later married Frankel's friend from high school. It was Frankel's first relationship shown on the series after her divorce from Jason Hoppy.

Bethenny recently commented on RHONY that she was taking a break from her relationship from Dennis, but still loved him.

She called her relationship with Shields, a NY banker, complicated during an interview with Steve Harvey in May.

"I've been with someone on and off for years", she said. "It's like a partnership where if we're not being teammates and it's not working and one man is down, then the other man is down", Bethenny shared, keeping Dennis anonymous.

Frankel's on-off romance with Shields was a mainstay on Real Housewives of NY.

"I've been with someone on and off for years", she told Harvey. If both people aren't happy about it but slightly uncomfortable and giving up something or giving in [to] something, it doesn't work.
