Improved Liverpool need to be more clinical for title tilt, says Klopp

City fans expect perfect Pep prep but Reds will rival reigning champions

However, Klopp disagrees with that view as he pointed out that Manchester City, the defending champions, have strengthened significantly as well. I am always aiming as high as I can and if we can put West Ham in the Champions League why not? I thought about it for the preseason, but now we have to be in this championship mood.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals that Alisson Becker has settled in quickly at the club ahead of his expected competitive debut against West Ham United.

"It was pretty normal there would be one season when we would spend more money", Klopp said.

"The champions are Manchester City". Maybe with the way his team plays or because of other problems.

Klopp, whose longtime number two Zeljko Buvac left abruptly towards the end of last term, fell back one of his favourite analogies saying Liverpool were Sylvester Stallone's fictional boxer Rocky Balboa rather than his Soviet opponent Ivan Drago.

"We are still Rocky Balboa and not Ivan Drago, we are the ones who have to do more and fight more, that must be our attitude".

When asked what the 25-year-old needs to do to make an impact on the Premier League, Klopp told reporters: "Just be yourself in this case because he is a very calm person, very laid-back during the week".

Regardless of his downplaying with the media, fans are hopeful that the German manager will bring home the club's first league title since 1990 this season.

Klopp insists, though, that Liverpool will do their utmost in 2018-19 to try and earn the club its first ever Premier League title. "That's the plan - that we really go for it".

"Ragnar (Klavan) no real chance, Joel (Matip) did parts of training like Joe (Gomez) did, we will see how they are today". We know that. We have to be more clinical in the right moments, we have to be more aggressive in the right moments.

"Step by step, we come closer".

"A lot of people think because of the transfer window we will (challenge more) - but that's not how it is".

We are in for an entertaining 90 minutes at Anfield, so here is everything you need to know about the match...
