ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski rips NCAA for changing rules without consulting National Basketball Association

Rules changes come in the wake of an FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball

"It's on us to restore the integrity of college basketball and continue to improve the interests of all student-athletes. And if you're not on the approved list, and you want an agent, then are you stuck in the old days, and can be declared ineligible?" an agent of college basketball coaches told The Post. The announcement that USA Basketball would determine which players would be permitted to hire agents apparently "blindsided" both that organization, who are not viewed as prepared to handle such a responsibility. College players would have to request an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee on their draft prospects.

Student-athletes can now take up to 15 official visits, which begins August 1 before their junior year. The current rule only permits players to maintain eligibility if they withdraw from the draft 10 days after the National Basketball Association combine, while those who take part in the combine and go undrafted are left with the G League or the prospect of playing overseas.

The NCAA on Wednesday announced sweeping changes regarding college basketball eligibility, agents and other reforms in response to both the FBI investigation into alleged college basketball corruption past year and the April recommendations by the Commission on College Basketball. Previously, players who hired an agent lost their eligibility.

- Division I schools will be required to pay for tuition and related expenses for men's and women's basketball players who leave school and return later to earn their degree.

In addition to recruiting calendar changes and increases to the number of official visits recruits can make to schools, the NCAA has developed a form of subpoena power it previously lacked, requiring all school presidents, chancellors and athletic department members to contractually comply with all investigations.

One other notable change specifies the appointment of two independent groups to oversee the investigation of cases defined as "complex". The new rules also allow for heavier punishments, like longer head coach suspensions and stronger fines.
