Trump rips LeBron James' smarts hours before rally in Ohio

LeBron James speaks after the opening ceremony for the I Promise School in Akron Ohio

But Lemon and James, the three-time National Basketball Association champion and four-time league MVP, also touched on a few other subjects that led to Pres. Donald Trump, who must have been watching CNN Friday night and the Lemon-James interview specifically, tweeting out decidedly un-presidential attack on Lemon and James' intelligence.

"He's doing an fantastic job for his community", Jordan, now owner of the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Hornets, told NBC News through a spokesperson.

The school, which is a joint effort of the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools, will benefit at-risk children.

He later could not resist the urge to slam the president and said Trump was using sports to divide people.

CNN's Don Lemon scored an exclusive interview with hoops king LeBron James. "He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do", he wrote, and then apparently took a side in the James vs. Michael Jordan debate. Of course, the president also got a final dig in at James, saying "I like Mike", a reference to all-time great Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan.

Former Kentucky athletes are voicing their support for LeBron James after comments made about him by President Donald Trump.

Trump hit back in a tweet on Friday night in which he mocked James. The President ended his tweet with the seemingly unrelated exclamation of "I like Mike!"

"I support LeBron James", he said through a spokesman.

At the time, James came to Curry's defence.

"We're in a position right now in America, more importantly, where this race thing has taken over because I believe our president is kinda trying to divide us", he said. Trump, meanwhile, is headed to OH, as he is set to hold a "Make America Great Again" rally in Lewis Center, just north of Columbus, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

He also said he would "never sit across from (Trump)" during the interview.

Trump's comment sparked huge reaction on Twitter from James' backers.

And all of this was in flawless timing to of Trump's rally in Delaware County, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

In 2013, Mr Trump tweeted: "Lebron is a great player and a great guy!" Laker fans who spoke with Eyewitness News also felt the same way, often mentioning the school James opened and how he's impacted those kids' lives.
