Mexican officials: Airliner crashed after takeoff, no deaths

An Aeromexico jet crashed after takeoff in the northern state of Durango Mexico on Tuesday

We will remind, in Mexico, a passenger plane of airline Aeromexico crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport of the city of Victoria de Durango.

The mid-sized jet was nearly full, with 97 passengers and four crew members, when it came down at around 4 p.m. local time (2100 GMT), airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte said in a statement. As the left wing hit the ground, the plane lost both engines and came to a stop more than 300 yards from the runway, reports CBS News' Manuel Bojorquez.

An unidentified woman said she and her son managed to get out from a hole in the plane's fuselage.

"I'm fine by the grace of God", said Parsa, in a tweet.

According to Reuters, TV images showed the tail of a plan bearing an Aeromexico logo emerging from scrubland and a column of smoke rising into the sky.

The civil defense office of Durango state said the plane landed in a field near the airport for the state capital, also named Durango. Other authorities said the crash was closer to the airport.

"The fire started after the emergency landing" but "fortunately no one suffered burns", said Cardoza, who added that there had been "some serious injuries" but that most people sustained "very minor. knocks".

There were 97 passengers and four crew on board the plane Tuesday local time when it veered left, ran off the end of the runway and burst into flames. According to him, the nose took the brunt, so seriously injured the pilot.

A passenger aboard a commercial flight in Mexico recorded the terrifying moment the plane crashed while attempting to take off in inclement weather. But they agree the plane was trying to take off during a storm.

Airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte said early data suggested bad weather caused Tuesday's crash.

Luis Gerardo Fonseca, director of Mexico's civil aviation agency, told broadcaster ADN40 that members of his team began working at the site of the crash around 7.00am local time (8.00pm Singapore time), along with representatives of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Durango Governor Jose Aispuro said a gust of wind hit flight AM2431, which was heading to Mexico City just as it was lifting off the tarmac, forcing the pilot to abort takeoff.

A spokesman for Aeromexico declined to disclose the passenger list or the nationalities of those on board.

Dozens were injured, Durango state officials said, and it appears that a strong wind brought down Flight 2431. Aeromexico says it involved an Embraer 190 plane with capacity of 100 passengers.
