The lunar Eclipse will be visible from any point in Israel

There might once have been life on... the Moon? Yes, say researchers

The next time a total lunar eclipse will last this long will be in the year 2123.

Thanks to the moon's more volcanically active past, they pointed out, there may have been two periods (one 4 billion years ago, just after the moon formed, and the next 3.5 billion years ago) when the moon may have been a bit more habitable for periods of a few million years. A total lunar eclipse occurs when Sun, Earth and Moon are perfectly lined up, so only a minimal amount of sun light would seep through the atmosphere and so the Moon will appear dark.

"Meanwhile the greatest eclipse will be visible at 01-22 PST on July 28 which is going to be a historical moment", the PMD official said.

The balance of Asia and Europe, as well as Africa and Antarctica, will be able to see the entirety of the eclipse. "There is a possibility of high tides and sea erosion along Kerala coast due to the effect of total lunar eclipse", Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) member secretary Sekhar Kuriakose told TOI.

"As you frame up your shot, one thing will become immediately apparent; lunar tracking is incredibly challenging as the moon moves through the sky surprisingly quickly", explains David.

A rare celestial shadow play of total lunar eclipse which will be of the longest duration for the 21st century can be witnessed on Friday.

The next total lunar eclipse in the United Kingdom will take place on January 19, 2019. "We've all caught on to this lovely word "blood-moon".

However, the partial eclipse will be visible for nearly four hours.

On January 31, the world witnessed the Super Blue Blood Moon which hasn't happened in 152 years.

Mars, however, will appear brightest from July 27 to July 30, the space agency says.

The Moon will also spend a longer time in darkness than normal because its current path takes it right through the middle of Earth's shadow.

Lunar eclipses are less common than a solar Eclipse - no more than three per year, which can be observed in any particular place, although in some years they may not be. Looking directly at that light requires special glasses to protect the eyes from the sun's brightness.

He pointed out that the moon's appearance greatly depended on atmospheric conditions around the Earth at the time of the eclipse.

Fortunately, Indians will be able to watch the total eclipse from start to finish.

The moon sets near a light on the roof of Safeco Field during a baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox, Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Seattle. "Because of the reddish, orange-ish-red color, you really can't miss it in the sky".

But with cloudy skies across the Philippines forecast for the whole week and a southwest monsoon, weather forecasters are not optimistic Filipinos will get a good view of the eclipse. An hour later the moon will clear the full shadow of the Earth and after a further hour and 10 minutes completely out of the partial shadow. At the distance of the moon this shadow appears like the bull's eye at the centre of a dartboard.
