North Korea Wants End to Korean War Before Talking Nuclear Weapons Surrender

Images Show North Korea Dismantling Key Facilities at Satellite Launching Station

According to satellite images from 38 North released Monday night, key aspects of the Sohae Satellite Launching Station - including the launch pad - are being dismantled.

They cited images of a building used to assemble space-launch vehicles being dismantled, and a test stand used for the development of liquid-fuel engines.

"Since these facilities are believed to have played an important role in the development of technologies for the North's intercontinental ballistic missile program, these efforts represent a significant confidence-building measure on the part of North Korea", the monitoring group said in their report.

The supposed dismantlement of the site comes after Trump and Kim signed an agreement to work towards the goal of "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Two days later, images showed one corner of the structure had been completely dismantled and parts were scattered on the ground, the website said.

At the time, the president did not name the site, though media reports quoting unidentified USA officials later identified it as Sohae - the newest and largest of North Korea's several known major missile-testing facilities.

US President Donald Trump said North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un had vowed to destroy an engine test site, but did not specify which one.

However, the main processing building, gantry tower, and fuel tanks remained untouched, the images showed.

The Washington Post reported last weekend that Trump, who had said last month that North Korea's nuclear problem was "largely solved", was now privately expressing concern about a lack of progress on the issue.

The North Korean government has made a number of such unilateral moves since the start of the year, including the apparent destruction of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in March.

Last Friday in NY, a high-level South Korean official who spoke on the condition of anonymity chose to convey that hope to reporters - just as Pompeo highlighted in a different news conference that all United Nations member-states unanimously agreed to fully enforce sanctions on the North.

The Trump administration has maintained optimism about the diplomatic process aimed at persuading the North to abandon its nuclear weapons program, insisting there's "no rush" to reach a final deal.

The remarks came on the same day that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated that sanctions against Pyongyang will remain in place until the North fully denuclearizes.

Earlier on Monday, President Trump said that he was "very happy" with the progress in relations with North Korea, saying that Pyongyang had not launched any missiles or carried out any nuclear tests during the last nine months.

Other experts said North Korea is giving up little in dismantling the rocket engine test center.

South Korea has also pushed ahead with its reconciliation with the North since a landmark inter-Korean summit in April.

Brooks said that - in many ways - the lack of trust is the enemy "we now have to defeat".

Until that action happens, the envoy went, on, "the Security Council's going to hold tight, the global community - we ask you to hold tight as we go forward".

The meetings focused on what the summit means for North Korea and its nuclear weapons.
