And following reports that Demi Lovato was rushed to hospital on Tuesday for a suspected heroin overdose, sources claim her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valerrama is "completely devastated".

A representative for the Los Angeles Fire Department also told People they "transported a 25-year-old female patient to a local hospital".

Last year, in a YouTube documentary about her life titled Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, Lovato said, "I was scared because my mom always told me that your heart could just burst if you do it", referring to an early experience with cocaine.

"To the ones who never left me / We've been down this road before / I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore", Lovato sings in her recent single "Sober" off of her sixth album, "Tell Me You Love Me".

The star has suffered from addiction for numerous years, and first entered a rehabilitation facility in 2010 after withdrawing from a concert tour with the Jonas Brothers.

"She grabs the pills and downs them all and says 'you f***ing bitch. She needs our prayers and support", the DNCE frontman wrote.

Recalling how she would lie to her management and manipulate situations in order to get drugs, Demi revealed: "I wasn't ready to get sober".

It wasn't my intention, I'm sorry to myself.

She was set to play a show in Atlantic City on Thursday.

The pop singer has been open about her struggles with addiction, as well as her bipolar diagnosis, becoming a mental-health advocate. Azalea said how proud she was of Lovato, telling Entertainment Tonight: "I was just really proud of her that she was honest, because it's really hard to be honest with yourself". Along with seeking treatment for alcohol and drugs, she received therapy for an eating disorder and self-harming.

The moment was caught on camera during a performance at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles on Sunday and shared online.

Singer Lily Allen called Lovato a "beautiful spirit" and expressed hope that Lovato "makes a full recovery soon".
