Kevin Anderson, John Isner play second longest match in Wimbledon history

John Isner of the U.S. leaves the court after being defeated by Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the men's semifinal match at Wimbledon on Friday. It was a marathon game

In a match, which started after 20h00 on Friday night with the Centre Court roof already shut, that had to be carried over to be completed on Saturday with Djokovic leading by two sets to one.

Great Britain's Jack Draper, 16, battled to victory in an incredible boys' singles semifinal that lasted 4 hours, 23 minutes, defeating Colombia's Nicolas Mejia on the 10th match point, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (8), 19-17.

Anderson is the first South African man since Brian Norton in 1921 to reach the Wimbledon final.

They did not start their match until after 20:00 BST as they had to wait for Kevin Anderson's epic semi-final against John Isner to finish.

And he made it clear Grand Slam tournament organisers should consider a rule change - perhaps introducing a tie-break at 12-12 - to make the deciding set of five-set matches less gruelling.

"Either Nadal or Djokovic - neither needs any introduction".

Nadal, the reigning world No. 1, and Djokovic, a former No. 1, boast 29 Grand Slam titles and five Wimbledon championships between them.

"Right now I feel bad", the 33-year-old Isner said, noting he developed a foot blister at some point in the match.

It took all of 110 service games for Isner, 33, to be broken at this year's event, but even that was not enough as the 32-year-old Anderson went down two sets to one initially, and fought back by winning the fourth set 6-4.

This is the longest three-set match in the history as it lasted for four hours and three minutes.

"Yes, there were moments of doubt, of frustration, disappointment, where you're questioning whether you want to keep it going", said Djokovic back in a Slam final for the first time since finishing runner-up at the 2016 US Open. That's why you put in X amount of hours on the practice court, preparation, trying to be as professional as you can, because you need to compete with a guy like Nadal.

Djokovic had two break points when Nadal was serving for the set, angrily remonstrating with himself when he failed to convert them before gifting the Spaniard the set with a backhand error.

"To win against the best player in the world, the longest match I've ever played".

"They've paid to see two matches, and they came pretty close to only seeing one match", Anderson said.

"I apologise if I´m not more excited right now".

Few were happy. Some members of the crowd booed, while John McEnroe, calling the match, had earlier referred to the curfew as "absurd", noting players won't be any happier about being forced into a second day.

"I think it's long overdue", Isner said.

Djokovic gives Nadal a challenge no other player can.

None of this will help him on Sunday in his second Grand Slam final though.

The 12th-seeded Serb broke back immediately with a dipping forehand but Nadal replied with another break which proved decisive as he levelled the match.
