Inter Coach Martusciello Will Not Join Sarri's Staff At Chelsea

Napoli star Jorginho

Chelsea, who have also been in protracted negotiations with former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri whose appointment is imminent, may have been hoping Conte would find another job before they had to act.

Former Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri on Friday agreed terms with Chelsea to become the club's new manager after Antonio Conte was sacked on Thursday.

Chelsea have endured a turbulent summer so far with managerial uncertainty meaning they've yet to make a major signing so Jorginho is expected to become the first new arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Pep Guardiola had identified Jorginho, who was born in Brazil, as his top target for the holding midfield role after Yaya Toure's contract ran out, but Chelsea beat City to the punch after appointing Sarri.

Speaking to the club's official website, Jorginho said: "I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea". Jorginho was a key member of the Napoli side which pushed Juventus so hard for the Serie A title last season and he arrives at Stamford Bridge for a fee in the region of £60million.

'I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win'.

That came a day after Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis said Jorginho favoured a move to London.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016-17 and followed up that achievement with the FA Cup triumph this year, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond fix, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy.

Chelsea's statement announcing Conte's departure totalled just 52 words. "In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game season".

"We wish Antonio every success in his future career".
