Trump arrives in 'hot spot' Britain, questioning May's Brexit plan

Americans warned to keep a'low profile in UK during Donald Trump's visit

Activists inflate a giant balloon depicting US President Donald Trump as an orange baby in north London on July 10, 2018 ahead of a demonstration in London to coincide with the visit of the US president.

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in "hot spot" Britain on Thursday after casting doubt on Prime Minister Theresa May's plans for leaving the European Union and with protests planned across the country where he says the people like him a lot.

Although he will visit the United States ambassador's residence, he is largely avoiding central London, where the largest protests are expected Friday.

On Friday, May and Trump will hold talks on Brexit, relations with Russian Federation and trade ties at the prime minister's Chequers country residence followed by a press conference.

Organisers said they will transport the balloon to Scotland overnight, and will fly it elsewhere on Saturday even if their Ayrshire application is turned down.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Mr Ruddy said: 'Trump will think the baby balloon is about him so it's probably a positive thing.

Ahead of Trump's arrival, the USA embassy advised U.S. citizens in London to "keep a low profile" during Trump's visit.

Trump will attend a gala dinner Thursday with British and American officials at Blenheim Palace, the ancestral home of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

In other news from this morning's press conference, Trump stunted expectations when he refused to comment on the UK's current Brexit turmoil.

Dozens of other, smaller protests against Trump's visit are set to take place around the United Kingdom throughout his stay.

May contacted Trump days after he was inaugurated, extending the invitation for a coveted state visit that would be hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, but that gesture has proved far more controversial than expected as Trump has shown little interest in maintaining "diplomacy as usual" with European allies.

A Downing Street spokesperson told HuffPost UK: "On Friday she is going to have a separate program in London, and because it's in London I'm not able to share the location but she plans to meet veterans and local schoolchildren".

May is hoping Trump's trip will boost the close ties between their two nations and help forge a future free trade deal once Britain leaves the EU.

He said the stunt aims to "hold up a mirror" to Mr Trump's "toddler-like politics".

Ms Menon, who is part of a group who crowdfunded the balloon, said: 'We know that behind the humour of this the Trump baby represents a whole multitude of campaigns and issues.

An all-night noise protest "Keep Trump Awake in London" is due to take place outside Winfield House from 8 p.m. local time tonight, with the intention of causing a sleepless night for Trump.

Just hours after May's foreign minister, Boris Johnson, resigned and complained that the Brexit dream was being suffocated, Trump said he might speak to him during the trip.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss Russia, Brexit and Middle East.
