Charges dropped after Stormy Daniels arrested at OH strip club

Stormy Daniels arrested in Ohio, lawyer says

Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who alleges Trump's lawyer paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about an affair she had with the President in 2006, was arrested in OH on Wednesday night, TMZ reports. "We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing "touching".

The 39-year-old, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has piqued the nation's interest: More than 22 million Americans tuned in to see her speak on 60 Minutes in May.

Under the 2007 Community Defense Act, dancers are prohibited from touching customers and vice versa, excluding immediate family members.

Prosecutors say the "touching" statute only applies to strippers who "regularly appear" at the establishment.

Her attorney, Michael Avenatti, took to Twitter immediately to rail against the whole thing, calling the arrest a "setup" and saying it was "politically motivated". He said his client was "performing the same performance that she has conducted at over a hundred strip clubs around the country".

NBC News reported in April that Daniels is cooperating with federal investigators as part of their criminal investigation into President Donald Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen. Daniels had been accused of touching police officers, including the breasts and buttocks of a female officer.

"During her performance, they asked her if they could place their face in between her breasts while she was performing on stage", he said.

Judge James P. O'Grady then signed an order which officially dismissed the case.

Daniels has been on tour since last winter, appearing at strip clubs across the United States, and had been due to perform again at Sirens on Thursday night. The president had claimed that the payment to Clifford - who says she had an affair with Trump - had nothing to do with his election campaign. "We will fight all bogus charges", Avenatti tweeted.

A prosecutor's memo provided by Avenatti said an OH illegal touching law cannot be enforced because Daniels has only appeared once at the Columbus club.

Avenatti said that undercover vice officers arrested Daniels after she was touched by the customer.

He previously blasted the arrest as "a setup" that was "political motivated".

"It reeks of desperation", he tweeted.

According to a Columbus Police report shared by a Fox affiliate in Cleveland, Daniels went on the club's main stage at 11:30 p.m. for a performance. "I deeply apologize to my fans in Columbus", Daniels said in a statement released by her attorney. Trump has denied the affair happened. Avenatti alleges the payment was a violation of campaign finance law and was created to suppress speech.

However, Mr Trump - who initially denied knowledge of the payment - subsequently conceded that his lawyer was in fact reimbursed.
