Trump treats Kim to a Rocket Man CD amid nuclear talks

Korean War

Before President Trump's historic meeting with Kim, Pompeo had insisted the US would only accept complete, verifiable, irreversible, denuclearization, commonly referred to by its acronym CVID.

The network news said Pompeo's response did not appear to confirm or deny the newspaper's report.

Pompeo is in North Korea for negotiations following President Trump's historic Singapore Summit with Kim, as the administration looks for a substantive commitment from the North Koreans to end their nuclear weapons program.

President Donald Trump used to taunt North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as "Little Rocket Man" for his frequent missile tests.

Instead, it seems as though the US needs to get assurances that Kim is still committed to the document he signed in Singapore that calls for the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" - and to determine what that phrase means to each side.

Pompeo is in North Korea for two days to discuss the return of the remains of USA soldiers who were killed in the Korean War in the 1950s and dismantlement of a North Korean missile engine test site.

At a Seoul press conference June 14, Pompeo insisted sanctions would remain on North Korea until complete denuclearization had been realized. -South Korea "war games" and Kim saying he would disassemble his test sites, though there's been no sign that he's made any efforts to do so.

Five US officials told NBC News that North Korea has increased its production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons.

"On this trip I'm seeking to fill in some details on those commitments and continue the momentum toward implementation of what the two leaders promised each other and the world", Pompeo was quoted as telling reporters during a brief stopover in Japan earlier in the day.

Speaking on Thursday, Mr Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on a trip to Montana that he was still upbeat about the future of North Korea and his relationship with its leader.

Pomepo said yes and added, "I'm looking forward to our time together today".

Pompeo will stay in the Paekhwawon, or 100 Flowers Garden, a prestigious guesthouse where former South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun stayed during his summit with Kim Jong Un's father, Kim Jong Il, in 2007.

"Under the Obama administration they were launching missiles, they were testing", Mr. Trump said.

"Chol told @SecPompeo, after he joked that if he visits DPRK one more time he'd have to pay taxes: "The more you come, more trust we can build between one another", Palmieri tweeted.

News reports over the weekend cited USA intelligence sources as questioning the North's commitment to abandoning its nuclear arsenal.
