The Warriors remain light years ahead, sign DeMarcus Cousins

San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard celebrates sinking a basket in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Dallas Mavericks onTuesday Dec. 12 2017 in Dallas

DeMarcus Cousins is signing with the Golden State Warriors in a stunning free agency move. The center, who has had his problems with technical fouls, will sign with the two-time defending champions after the moratorium period is lifted Friday, a person with direct knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Monday night. So does Boston - which, coincidentally, gave away the No. 9 jersey that Rondo used to wear there Monday by completing the long-expected signing of Brad Wanamaker, a guard who comes to Boston after spending the last seven seasons in Europe.

When he returns, the Warriors will have the luxury of starting five All-Stars, with Cousins joining Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Curry took to Twitter following the announcement, referring to Cousins as the "third Splash Brother". "If Cousins returns to form, the Warriors may have to adjust to Cousins' game, but they'll become even more dominant and versatile than they've been the past four seasons".

Sources say Cousins may not play in an actual game until around Christmas.

With Cousins coming off that Achilles injury, he will likely be out until December or January, according to Wojnarowski.

"R u joking this is just nuts at this point", Edens posted on social media. That group was Jo Jo White, Charlie Scott, Dave Cowens, Paul Silas and John Havlicek.

However, the news was a blow to pretty much everyone who doesn't support the Warriors, apart from Joel Embiid, who urged the Sixers to add a star of their own and take the fight to Golden State. Re-signing Cousins was easily the top priority for Demps, and to see Cousins walk out the door and sign with the Warriors for such a low price tag is insult to injury for the organization.

Cousins said: "This was my ace of spades". While the future appeared bright with Cousins and Davis, there was talk in New Orleans that the Pelicans were better without Cousins after they advanced to the West semifinals. A lot of times people don't give him that credit.

Kawhi Leonard missed all but nine games in the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season, due to the right quadriceps injury the San Antonio Spurs announced in September.
