Is your Samsung phone texting private pics without permission?

Users have reported their phones have sent

Some Samsung smartphone users have reported that their devices randomly sent photos to their contacts without their knowledge and without a trace.

Users posted complaints on Reddit and Samsung's support forums about a odd issue that appears to be silently sending photos to random contacts. This message doesn't show up on their end, but the other person's phone shows the message as if it was sent manually.

They only discovered when the recipient of these photos answered back inquiring about the mysterious messages.

Affected individuals say their phones have started sending messages to one of their contacts with their full photo gallery. Both they and other Reddit users who reported the same problem found no record of the messages having been sent, either. "Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG".

In the meantime, Samsung users can do either one of two things to prevent photos from being sent out: either revoke Samsung Messages' ability to access story via your phone's app settings, or switch to a different texting app like Android Messages. "However, there was record of it [in my] T-Mobile logs".

The forums indicate that Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices are affected, but may not be the only ones afflicted with the bug. "We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it", a spokesperson said. What's clear is that the bug is not device-specific or network-specific, with speculation regarding the cause of the bug revolving around recent Samsung Messages updates.

Samsung owners anxious about the issue can go into their phone's app settings and revoke Samsung Messages' ability to access storage.

It is believed the bug could be due to a new messaging standard called RCS, which is created to make texting look more like a messaging app, complete with read receipts and typing indicators.

The folks at Samsung are now looking into the issue.

Samsung is aware of the issue and is working to resolve the problem.
