Relentless Japan hold Senegal; England into last 16 after Panama demolition

Senegal's players take part in a training session in Kaluga

Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse said on Saturday that his team could repeat their 2002 FIFA World Cup success at this years tournament in Russian Federation.

Senegal, who reached the quarterfinals in the country's previous World Cup appearance in 2002, needed just over 10 minutes to go in front. Cisse was the captain of that squad.

Japan and Senegal go into their final group matches on four points ahead of Colombia, who have three after eliminating Poland with a 3-0 win on Sunday.

Colombia have three points and now sit third in Group H behind Senegal and Japan, who both have four points.

Japan can advance with a win or a draw, and perhaps even a loss.

Clips of the coach's fist-pumping goal celebrations while directing a smouldering gaze towards the camera during Senegal's opening game against Poland have gone viral, attracting the attention of admirers around the world.

"We need to have more concentration and be more rigorous", Cisse said.

"A total of 20,000 Colombian fans are coming to Samara for the match against Senegal", the press service said.

Domestic Japanese teams do have so-called "ultras" and there are overtly right-wing football supporters, but Aoyanagi bristled at the notion of a Japanese hooligan.

"I think we can make it to the quarter-finals", said a beaming Yuki Isoda, a 24-year-old chiropractor wearing a blue Japan jersey.

Japan failed to deal with a right-wing cross with Genki Haraguchi nodding the ball straight to Senegal defender Youssouf Sabaly in the box. "We're much looking forward to the match, how we are going to beat them, and I'd like to show you how tomorrow".

Pochettino's side are already one of the most devastating attacking forces in England, and they would only be stronger with Quintero in their squad.

England's biggest-ever World Cup win, featuring two penalties by Kane then a fortuitous deflection off his heel, also guaranteed Belgium's berth in the next round.

And what about abusing opposing teams or players, or criticising their own side if they lose?"I don't, but some Japanese do shout and swear".
