Trump jokes he wants 'my people' to 'sit up at attention'

Putin invites Kim to Russia, praises Trump summit

"President Donald Trump joked Friday that he wants "[his] people" to listen to him the way North Koreans do to dictator Kim Jong Un.

Very close. We're very close to getting it started.

"I'm going to be calling North Korea", he said. "That's a very important thing", he said. I can now call him. He can now call me if he has any difficulty. "People are shocked that this is the kind of - you know, they thought Trump was going to get in. It's actually the opposite".

The high-stakes meeting is apparently now serving as inspiration for Trump, who told Fox News' Steve Doocy outside the White House Friday morning that he desires the same brand of dictatorial effect Kim has on repressed North Korean citizens.

"The whole landscape has shifted, and I believe that we should give exercises, major exercises, a pause to see if (North Korean leader) Kim Jong Un is in fact serious about his part in negotiations", retired Adm. Harry Harris, who just stepped down as head of the USA military's Pacific Command, told a Senate hearing.

USA and South Korean forces have trained together for decades, and routinely rehearse everything from beach landings in the North to pre-emptive "decapitation" strikes targeting the North Korean regime.

But the president has fawned so much about Kim since their meeting, you might wonder if he is simply flattering a man with nuclear missiles or exalting the kind of leader he truly admires?

Both leaders signed an agreement dubbed "comprehensive" and promised "peace and prosperity", but the exact details about potential North Korea denuclearisation remain unknown.

Kim Yong-nam and Putin are believed to have exchanged opinions on the result of the historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un earlier this week in Singapore. "As I said in Singapore, Chairman Kim has the chance to seize an incredible future for his people", he said. "That's a good thing for us".

The South Korean government and people want United States troops in South Korea to stay. Mr. Trump's announcement that he would halt the exercises appeared to catch Pentagon officials unaware. I guess they're using that as another sound bite.

They agreed to implement a 2004 agreement, in which the two sides' militaries vowed to work to prevent unexpected clash in the West Sea, a joint statement said. It costs us a lot of money. "We can schedule this meeting regardless of worldwide events between our foreign ministries", he said. "Don't let anyone think anything different".
