White House aide apologises for 'special place in hell' comment

Trump Adviser Apologizes For Saying Trudeau 'Deserved Special Place In Hell'

"And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did at that stunt press conference".

Navarro made his apology on Tuesday while speaking at the Wall Street Journal's CFO conference, an annual meeting of the newspaper's editors and chief financial officers from some of the world's most influential companies.

"I used language that was inappropriate", he said, according to Journal reporters.

If Donald Trump was counting on Justin Trudeau to bend to US trade demands after a series of verbal attacks on the Canadian prime minister, it's not working so far.

White House trade adviser weighs in on 'Fox News Sunday'.

Navarro's original statement, on "Fox News Sunday", followed a pair of tweets in which Trump raged about comments Trudeau made at a news conference after a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations.

Navarro's comments came the day after Trudeau vowed not to be "pushed around" by the U.S.in response to Trump's decision to impose stiff tariffs on Canada.

Deron Bilous, Economic Development and Trade Minister in Alberta's NDP government, said Canada shouldn't back down. Kudlow told Tapper that Trudeau "did a great disservice" to the G7, and said that Trudeau had attacked Trump for "domestic consumption".

"As an American, I hate this", Bruce Heyman, who was USA ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2017, told CBC's On the Money. Canadians are "polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said. He called on Trudeau to apologise to Trump.

"I have a good relationship with Justin Trudeau", he said. "I own that. That was my mistake, my words".

President Donald Trump has recently blasted several nations, including Canada, over what he has called unfair tariffs on United States goods. The country has rallied together, with public opinion polling showing there's wide support for Canada's retaliatory tariffs against the steel and aluminum duties that will kick in for some US goods on July 1.

"It's very unfair to our farmers, and it's very unfair to the people of our country", Trump said Tuesday in Singapore.

Republican U.S. Senator Tom Cotton, however, said North Korea's leader could also face harsh words.

After a pre-summit meeting of G-7 finance ministers, in which Washington was rebuked by the other six members on June 2, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that despite sharp disagreements on trade, the other countries remain "our most important allies".

The escalating clash cast a shadow over the Trump's nuclear talks with Kim and led critics to question why the president was bashing United States partners while appearing to cosy up to one of Washington's bitterest long-time foes.
