Salah still a doubt for SWC opener against Uruguay

Salah responds to Ramos' comments about Champions League injury

Doubts persist over Salah's fitness but the Egyptian star said from the team's base in Grozny on Monday that he was "well-prepared" for the tournament.

Egypt have played down the claims made by forward Mohamed Salah that he will be ready for their first match at the World Cup against Uruguay.

While Salah has talked up his hopes of starting against Uruguay in Yekaterinburg, Ehab Lehita, the Egyptian FA's managing director, said: "We're keeping an eye on the situation day by day". So I thought to myself, I have quite a few games to play before the end of the season, I can break the all-time record!

"He still feels pain... this type of injury needs a recovery period of three weeks before going back to the field", said Abou al-Ela.

Salah capped off an incredible season for the Reds, where he managed 44 goals in all competitions.

Alongside that, the former Borussia Dortmund attacker, who became the world's second most expensive player last summer following his £135.5m switch to the Camp Nou - subsequently dropping to fourth following the switches of Kylian Mbappe and Philippe Coutinho - has also found it hard to adapt his game to La Liga and Barca's style of play.

Salah told reporters on Sunday that he expected to play against Uruguay, before he flew to Russian Federation with the rest of the Egyptian squad. The Pharaohs had a tough run in the preparatory World Cup matches, tying with Kuwait and Colombia and losing to Greece, Belgium and Portugal.
