Trump says Russian Federation should be at G7 meeting, Moscow not so sure

President Donald Trump warned trading partners not to retaliate against USA duties on steel and aluminum imports, before departing from the Group of Seven summit in Quebec on Saturday.

The two-day summit in Canada has been marred by a tit-for-tat exchanges of hostile tweets, with United States trading partners furious over Trump's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico as part of his "America First" agenda.

Kudlow says Trudeau's actions were a "sophomoric play" and says the prime minister stabbed his US allies in the back, which he argues did a great disservice to the whole G7.

In another tweet, Trump said he's "looking forward to seeing" Macron and Trudeau and accused them of "charging the USA massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers".

Trump, who arrived late to the first meeting on gender equality today, will leave before talks on climate change and the health of oceans, after not gaining support in his grievances over U.S. tariffs.

USA stock indexes initially dipped on Friday, partly due to investor nervousness over the G7 summit, but later turned positive.

The US president had earlier called for Russian Federation - which was suspended from the group in 2014, following Moscow's annexation of Crimea, and made a decision to leave permanently in 2017 - to be readmitted in the interests of realpolitik.

In May, Trump hit Canada, Mexico and the European Union with steel and aluminum tariffs as part of an effort to create "FAIR TRADE" agreements with America's partners.

The photo was also posted on Twitter by Trump's national security adviser John Bolton, who stated that the U.S. president's posture sent a message to other G7 countries that the United States will no longer be their bank.

That means he will miss a working session among the leaders on climate change and clean energy, as well as talks among the G7 and poorer countries focused on the health of oceans.

Trump has announced tariffs of up to $150 billion on Chinese goods over USA complaints of Beijing's trade practices and its alleged theft of US technology.

Trump has provoked outrage and unsettled markets by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to the United States.

He later said, "It's going to stop, or we'll stop trading with them".

"The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing a 6 country agreement if need be", Macron said in another tweet.

This year's G7 has been dominated by discussions on Donald Trump's tariffs, which he insists are for national security reasons.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing", Trump complained.

Trump will meet with Macron and Trudeau face-to-face on Friday.

In retaliation, all three allies vowed to impose retaliatory tariffs on scores of US products.

Macron is aware of the latest twist on the communique and does not have a comment at this time, a French presidential official said.
