EA Play 2018: Anthem release date and gameplay details announced

EA Shows off Battlefield V: Will Bring Battle Royale To WW II

Anthem finally got its moment in the spotlight today, and while there was lots of buzz words being thrown around, we did see some gameplay and learn the game is releasing on 22nd February 2019. Thee will still be cosmetic DLC, but zero play to win. It is planned to be their biggest and most immersive Battlefield game yet.

Expect reveals of Federation Internationale de Football Association 19, Madden 19, and a new Star Wars title.

Here we go! E3 is officially underway in 30 minutes when EA's press conference goes live.

The addition of a battle royale mode should come at no surprise, considering the surge in popularity of titles like "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" and "Fortnite". Players who are members of the EA Access or Origin Access will get to jump onto the game on the 11th October for a Play First Trial.

And two games were outright launched during the EA Play: Unravel 2, a co-op sequel to the 2016 EA-published puzzle platformer, and Command and Conquer: Rivals, a new free-to-play, Clash Royale-like spin on the classic RTS series for iOS and Android. This is obviously a very new and different path for BioWare games, as they're typically associated with romance - games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age had players swooning all over, but it looks like Anthem won't feature that at all. Instead, it simply confirmed that the game would let players fight as a Jedi in events between episodes III and IV of the film series.
