Tetris Effect is a Weird Psychedelic Tetris Game for PS4 and PSVR

Countdown to E3 2018 Announcements -Watch Reveal of New PS4 Game Live Here Today

It's called Tetris Effect, and it's coming from the creator (Tetsuya Mizuguchi) behind the transcendant puzzle-meets-music series, Rez, and the studio (Enhance Games) that helped him bring Rez Infinite to VR in 2016.

Tetris is one of the most recognizable game brands in the world.

More announcements are set for every morning, 8 a.m. PT, leading up to PlayStation's showcase on June 11, including two more VR games set for reveal on Saturday and Sunday. Owners of the PlayStation 4 Pro can also enjoy the game in 2D dimensions in 4k at 60fps. Get a look at Tetris Effect in the video above.

The game was revealed today, showing all the blocks, lines and shapes you would expect.

Enhance promises an immersive experience where "Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects - everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in flawless sync with how you're playing".

Almost 35 years after its initial release, Tetris is still one of the best, most addictive games there is, but is it still possible to do something new with the venerable puzzle series?

Aside from that, the game has the usual array of game modes in Tetris games, such as the classic Marathon - where you play until you lose - a sped-up Sprint Mode and an Ultra mode which imposes a time limit to achieve the highest possible score.

A player grading and leveling system as well as variable difficulty to encourage and reward replayability.

A playable demo of Tetris Effect will be on hand at E3 next week.
