Kremlin says Abramovich 'has right' to Israeli citizenship

Chelsea soccer club owner Roman Abramovich

Russian-Jewish billionaire Roman Abramovich, who immigrated to Israel this week, will not be allowed to work in the United Kingdom if he enters the country on his Israeli passport without a valid visa - just like any other Israeli - a spokesperson for the British government said.

Under the nation's Law of Return, Jews living overseas have eligibility to gain Israeli citizenship.

Chelsea FC owner's previous tier-1 visa was granted before regulations were tightened.

Israel's Law of Return gives every Jew, or child or grandchild of a Jew, the right to Israeli citizenship on demand.

Rabbi Boroda: "With the upcoming 20-year anniversary, we wanted to specially recognize those who have been vital to our work and to the Jewish community".

And in the bid you were referring to people with Israeli passport they don't need visa to come to the UK.

Britain said this month it would review long-term visas of rich Russians after the March poisonings of a former Russian spy and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury.

Reports in Israel-based Russian language media claim Abramovich was on the ground at Ben Gurion Airport for around three hours after arriving in his €64m private Boeing 767 jet.

As a new citizen, Abramovich is exempt from taxes in Israel on income earned overseas for 10 years, and need not declare the sources of that income for the same period.

Another official told Channel 10 News that Mr Abramovich submitted a citizenship request "like any other person" with Israel's Moscow embassy and was accepted.

His new residence is the Varsono Boutique hotel-in Tel Aviv's artsy Neve Tzedek neighborhood-that he bought from Yaron Varsono, the husband of "Wonder Woman" star Gal Gadot, for NIS 100 million ($28 million) in 2015. Also, he may have been asked to reveal his sources of wealth to British authorities to be granted a new visa to live and work in Britain. He was formerly governor of Chukotka from 2000 to 2008.
