Assad: US losing cards in Syria, must leave our soil

The sun sets over the Gaza Strip as seen from the Israeli side of the border

The Syrian president said his government had "opened doors to negotiation" with US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish group that controls parts of northern Syria.

Though he did not mention Iran specifically, Lavrov said that only the Syrian regime should field military forces in the country's southern border areas, Reuters reported citing the state-operated RIA news agency.

Assad said his government had "started now opening doors for negotiations" with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-dominated militia alliance that is backed by Washington and controls parts of northern and eastern Syria where U.S. troops are stationed.

In Washington, the State Department said it was not looking to fight Syrian or Iranian forces, but would use "necessary and proportionate force" to defend USA and partner forces in the fight against Islamic State in Syria.

"This is the first option".

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war through a network of activists on the ground, says at least 68 Iranian and pro-Iranian forces have been killed in Israeli strikes since April. In the interview with RT, Assad said Russian Federation and the U.S. came close to a confrontation in Syria.

He said he was sorry that Liberman had not visited Russian Federation with Netanyahu to attend the May 9 Victory Parade and invited him to come to next year's parade.

Israeli officials view a USA withdrawal with trepidation, as they consider the American presence there to be a buffer, preventing Iranian forces in Iraq and Syria from joining hands. "The Syrian army will wage all the battles and has now become strong and capable", the commander said. "They have to learn this lesson". Iraq is no exception. "Somehow, they are going to leave".

Trump has also blamed his predecessor for supporting Syrian rebels trying to overthrow Assad after a 2011 uprising, saying in 2015 that "Assad may be bad, but we have absolutely no idea who these people are that we're arming".

The attack triggered U.S., French and British missile strikes against what they called chemical weapons targets, the first co-ordinated Western strikes against Assad's government of the war.

"This is not my language, so, I can not use similar language".

"As regards the confrontation between "Israel" and Iran in Syria, we have agreements on the southwestern de-escalation zone, these agreements have been reached between Russian Federation, the United States and Jordan".

Over the last couple of months, Israel has intensified its bombing of military infrastructure in Syria, arguing that the Iranian presence in the Arab Republic jeopardizes its own national security. Syria's air defences were much stronger than before, thanks to Russian Federation, he added.
