Russian Federation and Israel 'reach a deal' with Assad on Syrian territory

Report Israel Iran engage in indirect negotiations over Syria fighting

Rebels control stretches of southwest Syria, bordering the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, while Syrian army troops and allied Iran-backed militias hold nearby territory.

Jordan said on Monday it was discussing south Syria with Washington and Moscow, and all three agreed on the need to preserve the ceasefire, which reduced violence since they brokered it previous year.

The understanding was reached and finalized in a discussion last Friday between Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Sources said the two national security advisers will make changes to the agreement that reflect the "new reality" of the USA no longer being party to the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Sources added that Bolton and Ben-Shabat will also discuss joint military cooperation in countering Iran's presence in Syria.

"Our position on Syria is clear", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his parliamentary faction in broadcast remarks.

The diplomatic flurry to prevent further violence comes as a Syrian government offensive on the southern province of Daraa appears imminent after aircraft dropped leaflets last Friday on the area, urging rebels to lay down their weapons or face an offensive. A separate report in a Saudi newspaper said the regime had agreed that Iranian militias would stay 25 kilometres away.

The US has also warned Assad not to move troops into the region.

Iran's ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Mostafa Moslehzadeh, reportedly received instructions from senior officials to conduct the negotiations with Israel in Amman.

Israel and Russian Federation have reached an unofficial agreement that Iranian and Hezbollah forces should be kept off from the border on the Golan Heights, Israel's Hadashot TV news reported on Monday.

Those strikes followed a barrage of some 32 rockets that were fired by Iranian forces in Syria towards Israel's part of the Golan Heights.

On May 10, Israel launched a large-scale attack on what it said were Iranian-operated targets in Syria, raising fears of a major confrontation.
