Will Power wins Indy 500

Takuma Sato

The victory capped a flawless month of May for the man from Toowoomba as Power tuned up for the Indy 500 by notching up his 33rd career win with a victory in the Indianapolis Grand Prix run on the Speedway's road circuit.

"I had a great month". He has 34 wins in IndyCar now, tying him with Al Unser Jr. for most on the career list.

Patrick was in 17th place when she lost control headed into turn two, a theme on this day. Bourdais crashed a year after missing the race because of a harrowing, high-speed accident during qualifying, while Castroneves - who is now driving sports cars for Penske - was going for a record-tying fourth victory in the Indy 500 in a brief return to open-wheel racing.

"He was so determined for this one", she said. The Homestead crash was Patrick's 10th race-ending incident of the season and her career ends with crashes in six of her final nine races overall.

Before her start on Sunday, Patrick posted a photo to Instagram saying, "This is just a chapter in the book".

Patrick said earlier this week she had no regrets about her career, and that she doesn't think she will have the itch to ever come back.

However, past year Patrick retired from NASCAR, finishing her tenure at the 2018 Daytona 500. She started the race from the seventh position.

"It just didn't come on race day but we had some good moments". "But we had some good moments".

"I'm not really sure what happened", a dejected Patrick said after coming out of the care center. I feel like collapsing.

"It's frustrating. vehicle was good", the Brazilian said. But all three needed enough gas to get to the finish line, and it was Power who was frantically chasing them down. His accident was only two laps after defending Indy 500 victor Takuma Sato and another Indy-only driver, James Davison, were involved in a two-car incident.

Kanaan's crash with 12 laps remaining set up a final restart with Oriol Servia out front.

As the race closed in on the halfway point Carpenter was the dominant auto on the track, but he was being seriously challenged by former Indy 500 victor Tony Kanaan.

"I honestly was beginning to believe I was never going to win this race", he admitted amid the victory lane celebration.
