Suspect in custody after active shooter report at in middle school

Teacher out of hospital after stopping school shooting

A student armed with two handguns shot a teacher and a fellow student at a middle school in IN on Friday, police said, the latest in a series of shootings at U.S. schools and colleges fuelling debate about how to keep campuses safe.

Students and parents of students from the school told news outlets that Seaman helped stop the shooter.

Seaman played at SIU from 2007-10.

His brother wasn't shocked that Jason intervened, telling the Indianapolis Star, "It's not surprising, to be honest. I went into this little room in the back with three other people", he said calmly standing between his parents as they picked him up.

Science Teacher Jason Seaman was shot three times while rushing the shooter and knocking the gun out of his hand. After she was asked, Rousey said she be willing to have Seaman walk her to the ring for a match. Southern Illinois tweeted that he was in good condition after surgery.

"He took about four to five, maybe six shots, one of them hitting a girl that was about ten feet from me", the student told WXIN. There's now no motive, or any information, for that matter, regarding the shooter.

Seaman's brother, Jeremy, said he wasn't surprised his brother interveaned.

"He's familiar with struggle and adversity", his brother said. It said Seaman is a native of Mahomet, Illinois, earned Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic team honors and was on the track team.

Kristi Seaman also posted an update that her son was "doing well".

Trump thanked the teacher Saturday on Twitter and praised Seaman's "heroic act". If he is a seventh grader, he is between 12 or 13.

"I especially remember that he would throw himself on top of the shooter if he had to", she said, "which he proved today".

Erica Higgins, who was among the anxious parents who rushed to get their kids, told WTHR-TV that she learned of the shooting from a relative who called her at home.

I am still processing my emotions about today's awful tragedy and I know you must all be as well. Her daughter was in Seaman's class. "There was potential for a lot of lives being lost", Lynas said Saturday.

Steve Vedder, who lives across the street from Seaman, said the teacher moved into the Noblesville home in November.

"He's a hero", the student said. "Another cotton pickin sad day and it just now happens to be in IN".
