‘Sesame Street’ Makers Sue Over New Melissa McCarthy Movie: You’re Defiling Big Bird’s Good Name with Ejaculating Puppets!

In the heat of the raunchy puppet parody's no-holds-barred marketing campaign, Sesame Workshop has opted to sue STX Entertainment, the production company responsible for the Melissa McCarthy-led comedy film. "All Street." tagline, would Sesame Workshop drop the suit?

Sesame Workshop alleges in the lawsuit, filed on Thursday in NY state court, that STX Productions has created confusion among the public into believing the film is connected to the show and infringed on the "Sesame Street" trademark. "All Street", in the recently released trailer makes unauthorized use of the Sesame Street mark, which is "a registered trademark of Sesame, an organization with a long and storied history of 'helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder".

Sesame Street has taken legal action over the obscene new puppet movie The Happytime Murders. "Instead, they are distributing a trailer that deliberately confuses consumers into mistakenly believing that Sesame is associated with, has allowed, or has even endorsed or produced the movie and tarnishes Sesame's brand". "ALL STREET" and a trailer with "explicit, profane, drug-using, misogynistic, violent, copulating and even ejaculating puppets".

Jim Henson, whose production company was taken over by his children on his death in 1990, created numerous Muppets used in Sesame Street but the rights to the puppets were sold to Sesame Workshop in 2000. Sesame has worked for almost 50 years to build, cultivate and maintain trust with its audience of parents and young children built on its reputation for wholesome educational programming.

Melissa McCarthy's upcoming R-rated film, The Happytime Murders, is in hot water.

The plaintiffs claim the studio's marketing strategy is harming Sesame Street's wholesome brand, as the film depicts Sesame Street themes and is marketed with the tagline: "No Sesame, All Street".

It opens in the US on August 17. "While we're disappointed that Sesame Street does not share in the fun, we are confident in our legal position". The son of late Jim Henson, Brian, is the director of the new movie.

STX Productions LLC, in a statement issued in the name of "Fred, Esq", a lawyer puppet, said it was looking forward to introducing its "adorably unapologetic characters" to adult moviegoers this summer.

The film-which co-stars Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks-is set to hit theaters August 17.
