Ronaldo hints he will quit Real Madrid after Champions League final win

Mohamed Salah

Madrid benefited to claim their 13th title - and fourth in five years - as Zidane became the first manager to win three successive Champions League finals, with Cristiano Ronaldo lifting his fifth European Cup.

Liverpool struck back through Sadio Mane but the five-time European champions were only fleetingly back in the game.

Jurgen Klopp's and Liverpool's own evening was marred by the loss of a distraught Mohamed Salah to injury in the first half, the Egyptian coming off half an hour in having damaged his shoulder.

Real Madrid scored their opener at 51 minutes after a gaffe from Reds keeper Lorius Karius allowed Karim Benzema to score.

The Spanish team is aiming to win its third consecutive Champions League.

"But I know the team is not about 11 players, it's about squad, and you have to come and make an impact, and that's what I did".

"It has to be (my best goal), a Champions League final, there's no bigger stage", Bale said.

He scored a second later in the game following a poor piece of goalkeeping from Karius, but it's his first effort that will live long in the memory.

With the match still goalless, Salah fell to the floor writhing in pain after his left shoulder got caught underneath Real captain Sergio Ramos as they fell to the floor in midfield.

Egypt's Salah and Spain right-back Dani Carvajal are both now in a race to be fit for the FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation next month.

It had been uncomfortable for Real, but after Salah departed, they sensed their chance.

Salah's absence in the second half will significantly diminish Liverpool's attacking threat.

"There were doubts during the year, but Real Madrid came together and has achieved something historic", Ronaldo was reported by the publication Goal as saying.

Bale went on to score again seven minutes before the final whistle, crushing whatever remained of Liverpool's hopes.
