Putin says 'all is not lost' to save Iran nuclear deal

Putin warns of financial crisis the world ‘has not yet seen

French President Emmanuel Macron lamented Trump's decision to pull out of an global climate agreement and to tear up a nuclear deal with Iran, according to The New York Times.

"But we can not make preserving the Iranian nuclear deal dependent on these three parameters because if we do, it means that we too are withdrawing from the accord because the deal that exists foresees no additional conditions".

"It creates a new basis for cooperation between Russia and Europe, without ignoring the differences that still exist", a Russian diplomat told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The Iran deal was the first time Russia, France, Germany and others had agreed on a major worldwide issue since relations between Russia and the West chilled over Moscow's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Speaking at a question-and-answer session in front of an audience of business executives and Russian officials, Putin said the USA withdrawal was damaging and counter-productive.

"We need to be talking about the situation after the war".

'A spiral of sanctions and barriers is just beginning and is affecting a growing number of countries and companies, ' said Putin.

"That was not desirable", Macron said, adding that the embassy move played a part in sparking fatal clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces.

Russian Federation and France have signed six contracts for direct investment into Russian Federation worth about €1 billion as part of the ongoing business forum in St Petersburg and the coinciding visit of the French president.

The personal relationship between Putin and Macron will face scrutiny throughout in only their third face-to-face meeting and the first since Putin won re-election in March.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attend a Victory Day parade at Red Square in Moscow, Russia, on Friday, May 9, 2014. "They are both very cultured and love history".

On the economic front, Mr. Putin expressed his satisfaction with the current momentum of bilateral trade relations.

"Trump is an uncultured man, violent and brutal", Orlov added.

"Certainly we can discuss Iran's ballistic missiles".

The Russian leader, who was recently sworn in for the fourth term, mentioned that former President Barack Obama's administration played a pivotal role in negotiating the Iran deal.
