Golden retriever gives birth to eight puppies in airport

Yellow lab gives birth to eight puppies

Ellie the service dog was accompanying a passenger en route to Philadelphia when her litter decided it was time to make its entrance into the world.

It was an exciting day at Tampa's airport as a service dog went into labor. Proud papa, "Nugget", was also on hand for the memorable moment.

Photos and a video of the incident were uploaded on the fire department's Twitter page under the hashtag "AirportPuppies".

With the help of paramedics, Ellie delivered eight puppies - seven males and a female.

The family, the puppies and the parents missed the flight.

Her name is Ellie, and she caused quite a stir on the concourse today as she unexpectedly went into labor.

Van Atter said she has mobility and pain issues, Nipps said, and the dogs were service dogs, though Eleanor Rigby was still in training. She said they knew Eleanor Rigby was pregnant, but believed the excitement of being in the airport around so many new people may have triggered the early birth. They announced that six puppies - all boys - were born, and they were patiently awaiting the seventh pup.
