Peace Officers' Memorial Day events happen this week

Central Police Services hosts law enforcement memorial service

Sunday's vigil is being held ahead of National Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is held annually on May 15 to honor law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.

We have not yet received the official presidential decree, but are sending this alert in anticipation of this annual event.

Building and maintaining a monument to honor Wisconsin law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Their names are forever memorialized as you enter the King County Courthouse 3rd Avenue entrance.

Officer Elias Martinez, with the Metro Police Department, died September 17 in a motorcycle crash in League City. He was among eight shot and killed. By that act, its goal was defined "as a memorial to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and in recognition of the selfless dedication of all law enforcement officers in the day-to-day performance of their duties". The California Peace Officer Memorial located at 10th Street and Capitol Mall in Sacramento was unveiled on May 13, 1988, as a memorial for these California officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. These ceremonies are a poignant, annual expression of gratitude to honor fallen friends whose end of watch occurred in service to their communities.
