Korea economically if it gets rid of nuclear weapons

Trump welcomes Americans home

But North Korea has said it's willing to talk now because it's already succeeded in becoming a nuclear-armed state, fueling skepticism that the North would truly be willing to give those weapons up.

Pompeo, who returned from Pyongyang this week with three Americans who had been held prisoner by North Korea, said the release of men had helped set conditions for a successful meeting between Trump and Kim in Singapore on Jun 12.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in's administration is conducting its own efforts to normalize ties on the divided peninsula and secure lasting peace. Nuclear weapons will be high on the agenda.

But both Washington and Seoul - longtime treaty allies - cooperate closely and also confer with the North's larger neighbor China, which has a stake in the outcome.

Analysts, meanwhile, say the decision to meet in Singapore may suggest that Trump is entering the talks with tempered expectations.

As foreign investors and global corporations begin to prepare for the possibility of investing in a Kim-ruled, non-nuclear North Korea, allies of the rogue state like China are beginning to suggest that the United States invest heavily in "rewarding" dictator Kim Jong-un for not flagrantly violating worldwide law.

By standing firm and confident in defence of what's right, we can make the world safer.

Pyongyang has long sought assurances the USA would not invade the North and is believed to have pursued nuclear weapons in an attempt to ensure the survival of the regime by raising the threat that any US move to oust Kim could escalate into nuclear war. At least, we can but hope that the end of its foreign aggression is in sight.

There are things to buy - but only for some people, those who have money.

The Southeast Asian financial hub was likely chosen due to its neutrality, security advantages and track record of hosting global summits, observers say.

"But we got, up front, our people home".

"If North Korea takes bold action to quickly denuclearize, the United States is prepared to work with North Korea to achieve prosperity on the par with our South Korean friends", Pompeo said.

It is known that Kim has been talking to the leaders in China.

"North Korea did not foresee the destructive power of these sanctions", Thae told the interview. Multiple rounds of non-proliferation talks have taken place, and a deal was even signed in 1994.

North Korea and South Korea have been separated since 1953 with very limited exchanges, cultural or otherwise.

"As a neutral, and objective country with much-admired consistent foreign policy principles and a small state with no desire or capacity to harm other states and their interests, Singapore fits that bill well", said Lim Tai Wei, adjunct research fellow at the National University of Singapore's East Asia Institute.

Pompeo said U.S. aim was clear - "to ensure that North Korean doesn't possess the capacity to threaten, not only the United States but the world, with nuclear weapons".

It's more likely, many North Korea experts believe, that Kim will push for a joint statement on peace and denuclearization that will require years of negotiations. We'll hold them to those steps.
