NASA Announces It is Sending a Helicopter to Mars in 2020

NASA is planning to send a helicopter to Mars in July of 2020

Mars 2020 is planned for launch in July 2020 with an arrival on the surface of Mars expected in February 2021.

NASA will send a small autonomous flying machine to survey the Martian landscape in their 2020 mission along with their new rover. The helicopter will certainly try to fly with the Martian air to see if cars could also rise on Mars, where the ambience is 100 times thinner compared to that of Planet. It is specifically created to fly in the atmosphere of Mars, which is 100 times thinner than Earth's. Once the drone has charged its batteries using solar cells and run through some tests, the rover will relay commands to it from controllers on Earth.

NASA introduced today that it will certainly be sending out a tiny independent flying chopper- appropriately called the Mars Helicopter- with the upcoming Mars 2020 wanderer. It has the potential to be much faster - and more complicated to fly further - than the River's journey to the rocky surface of Mars.

The remote-controlled Mars Helicopter is created to take flight in the thin Martian atmosphere with twin counter-rotating blades. NASA also packed in a heating mechanism to help the drone survive the frigid Mars nights. According to the agency, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, has been working on the "marscopter" project since August 2013. The Martian atmosphere is so thin that the altitude of the helicopter at takeoff on Mars already corresponds to an altitude of 30,500 meters on Earth. "To make it fly at that low atmospheric density, we had to scrutinize everything, make it as light as possible while being as strong and as powerful as it can possibly be".

Nasa plans for a 30-day flight test period that will include up to five flights, starting with a short vertical jaunt to hover for about 30 seconds at an altitude of 10ft (3m). This is meant to demonstrate the viability and usefulness of such aircraft on Mars. Mars is about 20 light minutes away from Earth.

Once the rover is on the planet surface, a suitable location will be found to deploy the helicopter down from the vehicle and place it onto the ground. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Texas Monthly, the Austin American-Statesman, Damn Joan, and Community Impact Newspaper.

In two years, a new United States rover is set to visit Mars.
