Palestinian killed and 400 wounded in latest Gaza protest

Reports emerged on Friday morning that Israeli forces had already begun heavily firing tear gas at the crowds in some areas, while one protester was shot with a live bullet east of Gaza City.

Al-Qedra also said that the Israeli army snipers are targeting children who are participating in the marches of return, adding that an Israeli sniper critically wounded a 16-year-old boy in the head east of the central Gaza Strip.

Despite Israel's repeated use of lethal force, Gaza residents once again flocked toward the Israeli border on Friday, to demand the right of return to their homelands and to reject USA recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"The rioters are violent, burning tires and hurling rocks at the security fence and at IDF soldiers and launching kites with burning items attached to them with the intention of igniting fires in Israeli territory".

Monday's border march is meant to protest the planned move of the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to contested Jerusalem that day.

Thousands of Indonesian Muslims staged a rally Friday protesting President Donald 's recognition of as Israel's capital, ahead of next week's Embassy relocation to the city.

The protests are part of a campaign to break the blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt in 2007 after Hamas overran Gaza.

The Gaza leader of the Hamas militant group has suggested tens of thousands of Palestinians could storm into Israel on Monday.

Vandals later burned a fuel complex and a conveyor belt on the Palestinian side of Gaza's main cargo crossing with Israel, causing more than $US9 million in damages and disrupting the import of diesel fuel and building materials, the military said.

The riots peak on Fridays and are building to a climax on May 15, the day Palestinians call the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe" - the anniversary of Israel's 1948 establishment. IDF said it only targets protesters who threaten the border.

By next Tuesday, the Return March organizers hope that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians will join.

The staff will number about 50 or 60, compared with 800 at the compound in Tel Aviv where the embassy has been for years - until Trump upended decades of global consensus to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel.
