Tesla Inc was not immediately available for comment regarding the crash

A fiery crash of a Tesla in Ft. As a result of its investigation the NTSB issued several new safety recommendations. The team of four is expected to arrive in Florida Wednesday evening.

A federal safety agency is investigating a severe crash and fire involving a Telsa electric vehicle that killed two teenagers in Florida.

The fatal accident happened on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when a gray 2014 Model S crashed into a concrete wall and burst into flames.

It's important to note that Teslas pass all federal safety standards and meet all crash test criteria for cars for sale in the U.S.as well as other markets. A third passenger was ejected from the auto and transported to a nearby hospital where he is in fair condition. "It was burning all the way across until it hit the lamp post".

Two high school students were killed in crash and a third 18 year old was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital.

Alexander Berry, who was riding in the backseat at the time of the crash, was ejected from the auto but survived. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, the latest crash follows two other Tesla vehicle accidents this year.

Investigators believe that the probable cause of the crash was a fire to the electric car's battery. Tesla said Autopilot was engaged leading up to the crash but the driver had their hands off the wheel for six seconds prior to impact.

On the company website, Tesla wrote that its battery packs "are designed so that in the rare circumstance a fire occurs, it spreads slowly so that occupants have plenty of time to get out of the auto".

After afatal Model X accidentin March that involved the vehicle's battery catching fire, Tesla said the batteries in its vehicles are created to decrease the rate at which a fire can spread. Tesla accused the NTSB of violating its own rules, while trying to prevent the automaker from releasing all available information.

"The family who owned the auto has been a close friend of Tesla for many years, and this hits us particularly hard". In a statement late on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the company said it had not yet retrieved the logs from the vehicle but "everything we have found thus far indicated a very high-speed collision and that autopilot was not engaged".

According to the auto company, this was a "very high-speed collision and..."
