Sam Allardyce expects Wayne Rooney to stay at Everton

Rooney and his kids at Goodison Park memories money can't buy

The report claims that talks between the former England captain and the Washington-based team have been stepped up in recent weeks, with the United States transfer window opening on July 10.

United and Rooney are having "serious talks" about a move this summer.

The ground will only have a 20,000 capacity but it is state-of-the-art and cost almost £300million to build, including land acquisition. Time waits for no man, and it appears to have caught up with Rooney, who has cut a frustrated figure in recent months as his body won't do what his mind directs. DC United looked at bringing Robin van Persie Stateside in January and have remained in the hunt for a marquee striker with global pull.

Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez, Javier Hernandez and Andres Iniesta have also been linked with the club.

"There are rumours about Wayne going elsewhere overseas - in China and America - but at the moment he is an Everton player and an Everton fan", he told talkSPORT.

DC United head coach Ben Olsen said the club were trying to add "some high-end quality, I think that's what we're in the market for".

Rooney was a beast back in the day - in fact, he's the Premier League's 2nd leading scorer of all time with 208 goals. He reacted angrily to being substituted before the hour against Liverpool in April.

But ex-Three Lions boss Allardyce is all too used to the ongoing speculation over everything Rooney, and insists the Toffees star is happy at the club.

His haul of 208 Premier League goals rank second only to Alan Shearer.

Big Sam has divided fans in his short stint at Everton and recently said it would take a "massive" offer to persuade them to allow Rooney to leave.
