'Pyongyang Time' scrapped as North Korea synchronises clocks with the South

U.S. President Donald Trump waves after he arrived at the White House

The statement came after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sat down for high-level talks in the border village of Panmunjom on April 27.

Trump also said that withdrawal of US troops from South Korea was "not on the table" as he looks to get Kim to give up his nukes at what will be the first summit of between a USA and a North Korean leader.

Ahead of an historic meeting with U.S. President expected within the next three to four weeks, Kim told South Korea's president that two tunnels at the nuclear test site are still in good condition, playing down speculation that the site was so badly damaged by nuclear explosions that it can no longer be used.

The absence of precise denuclearization measures and possible rewards for the North in the Panmunjom Declaration reflects Seoul's position that it intends to be a mediator trying to narrow down the differences in the positions of Pyongyang and Washington.

There are about 28,500 USA soldiers in South Korea, a reminder that the two Koreas are still at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.

Trump also said then that the Southeast Asian city state of Singapore was also in the running to play host.

Meanwhile, Seoul's presidential security advisor Chung Eui-yong was joined by his American counterpart John Bolton Friday in dismissing a New York Times report claiming that the U.S.is considering a troop reduction in South Korea.

"We now have a date and we have a location. So I think you can hope for the best, but we have to prepare for the worst".

North Korea readjusted its time zone to match South Korea's on Saturday and described the change as an early step towards making the longtime rivals "become one" following a landmark summit. "It's all agreed to", the president said. "We'll be announcing it soon".

Trump has credited his "maximum pressure" campaign of tough rhetoric and tightened sanctions for a breakthrough with Pyongyang, saying last week that Washington's "strength is going to keep us out of nuclear war".

Kim told Moon that while the USA has "instinctive resistance" against North Korea, it will realize that Kim "isn't type of person who would use nuclear toward South or the Pacific or target the U.S".

But the North Korean spokesman said Sunday that movement of USA military assets in the region and talk of human rights violations also have hurt the peace process.
