Self-driving car crash in Arizona: Waymo car involved in Chandler crash

A self-driving vehicle from Alphabet's Waymo company was involved in a auto crash in Chandler, Arizona on Friday, resulting in minor injuries. As the Honda swerved, it entered the westbound lanes of Chandler Boulevard and ended up hitting the Waymo minivan. There was an occupant in the Waymo vehicle sitting into he drivers' seat who has sustained minor injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed after the collision, which was first reported by ABC15.

The police said that a Honda sedan which was traveling eastbound had to swerve to avoid striking a vehicle. It was fortunate that the person behind the wheel of the self-driving auto suffered only minor injuries.

As per the Chandler Police Department report, a vehicle on the other side of the road had to swerve to avoid a collision, only to cross over to the other side of the road and smash straight into the Waymon minivan. "The Waymo vehicle was rolling, but I don't think it was going very fast", Tyler said.

Waymo is a self-driving firm linked to the parent company of Google.

As reported by the police, an operator was present in the vehicle on the drivers' seat at the time of the crash although the auto was in autonomous mode.

Uber and Waymo are tied by more than their misfortunes in the Grand Canyon State, which has become one of the most active testing grounds for self-driving cars.

The latest crash of the Waymo self-driving vehicle is a reminder that the autonomous technology is still in its early stage.

So far, Waymo hasn't commented on the crash.

According to Tyler, the Honda swerved to get away from a third vehicle that appeared, causing the collision. "& struck the Waymo vehicle, which was traveling at a slow speed and in autonomous mode", the local authorities detailed.

Self-driving vehicles might be the future of transportation.

The crash occurs nearly two months after a self-driving Uber vehicle killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona when she was attempting to cross the road at night.
