H1Z1 Coming to PS4 for Free with Open Beta Late Spring

H1Z1 Launching On PS4 Open Beta Begins May 22

The game's gas pacing has been altered to speed up the play of the match and the airdrop system has been revamped to keep players moving and invested in fights.

Additionally, Daybreak Games refined H1Z1's controls to make the game a lot more fluid with retooled controls and new features that make the game a natural fit for console gamers. The developer is also promising the game will run at 60 FPS for PlayStation 4 Pro.

Daybreak has announced that H1Z1, one of the oldest battle royale shooters on PC, will be making its way to PS4. "We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play", said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee. It all sounds great in theory and just might be what Daybreak Games needs to return to their once pride and glory, but it seems only PS4 players will get the chance to play this new version of the formerly dominant battle royale game.

A press release on April 24th announced that the game would be heading to PlayStation 4, and alongside being free to play, it'll also feature revamped weapons, a new progression system, and a new user interface.

For those not looking forward to fighting over airdrops, the game will also have special crates hidden around the map (on the ground) that contain high-level weapons and armour.

Weapon progression is tied to these airdrops as well, since players only start with access to close quarter weapons.

A total of six new guns are being added: the KH43, Marauder, MK46, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09 and Scout Rifle.

H1Z1 will have a surprise for PS4 Pro owners with "resolution gains" over the PS4 version, and guaranteed 60FPS gameplay, something the team has "fully optimized" the code for.

H1Z1 is coming to PS4, with an open beta starting next month. You can sign up for that here. On top of that, those with an active PlayStation Plus membership will receive 20% off their pre-order.

Be on the lookout for my interview with Lead Systems and Combat Designer, Tony Morton, where I asked him all about the PS4 version, the Fortnite-elephant-in-the-room, and more.
