Collective work needed to mitigate climate change: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presents an award to a civil servant during 12th Civil Services Day 2018 function in New Delhi on Saturday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took umbrage with the alacrity of BJP leaders to make foot-in-mouth comments as he asked party MLAs and MPs not to speak out of turn to the media on any issue.

The Prime Minister's advice to the party members comes against the backdrop of some party leaders making controversial comments on the recent rape incidents and Dalit issues.

He also advocated the party leaders to make use of full possibility of social media to associate with those people.

Modi also added that overall development of the country is the party's top priority.

As the BJP gears up for a fierce electoral battle against the ruling Congress in Karnataka on May 12, Modi also emphasised that the BJP is no longer a party of a particular community or limited to urban areas nor is it a north Indian party. The Prime Minister congratulated his party's lawmakers for their hard work and said that their efforts to connect with the people directly has infused a renewed energy in the party. "Our mass base is increasing among all sections of the society and it is our biggest asset", Modi was quoted as saying during the interaction.

Modi was addressing MPs and MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party via video chat through his personal NaMo App. He said, "Women in self-help groups are coming up with new employment opportunities in various sectors". "The biggest strength of any village is its unity", he said.

Modi asked party workers to work to spread harmony in villages and bring development to the poor, farmers, Dalits and tribals. PM Modi also shared his views on the "Ayushman Bharat" healthcare scheme announced in this year's Budget and said, "The government wants to establish wellness centres for villages, so that people can avail the best healthcare facilities".

Over 11 lakh LPG connections were distributed on a day recently, he said. He also took questions from elected representatives on various issues including youth skill development, rural development and farmer welfare.

He also mentioned about social activist Anna Hazare's village, where he had stressed on cleanliness and how that village had now become a model for others to follow.
