The "Fearless Girl" statue, which has attracted admirers and photo-takers since its installation past year opposite the charging bull on Wall Street, will be moved to a new location in front of the New York Stock Exchange.

"This move to a new location will improve access for visitors and ensure that her message and impact continues to be heard", he said.

The iconic statue will move about three blocks away, outside the stock exchange and facing the building, city officials say.

"I am thrilled Fearless Girl will remain in NY, inspiring global collaboration between genders for better decisions, and an improved environment at every strata of society", Visbal said in a statement.

Tourists take photos of "The Fearless Girl" statue as it stands across from the Wall Street's famous Charging Bull to draw attention to the gender equality and lack of female managers, March 9, 2017, in NY.

The statue was funded by financial firms including State Street Global Advisors to draw attention to the lack of female executives.

The bull's artist, Di Modica, had fought to have the statue removed, complaining that it was an advertising gimmick that changed the meaning of his 11-foot-tall, 7,100-pound bull statue from one of prosperity to one of a villain.

The famed "Fearless Girl" is moving from its current location in Bowling Green due to the permit expiring, according to State Street Corporation Media Relations Vice President Brendan Paul.

State Street Global Advisors praised the city for giving the statue a permanent home.

Kristen Visbal, the sculptor, told CNNMoney she is "thrilled" that the statue will remain in New York City. There's some talk of moving the Charging Bull, as well, but Di Modica's lawyer Norman Siegel told Reuters said the sculptor would need to give his permission first.

"The mayor felt it was important that the "Fearless Girl" be in a position to stand up to the bull and what it stands for", said Eric Phillips, the mayor's press secretary.

At a press conference a year ago, Di Modica told reporters that "Fearless Girl" tarnished the positive message of the bull, which is "a better America and a better world".
